Recently, people have been asking me where they can go to get delectable Singaporean food, Hainanese Chicken Rice to be precise. As the food scout, I’ve been challenged and tried to look for a restaurant that is not that expensive, yet convenient. After asking people around, foodies and friends, I landed to a restaurant, which opened at the end of the year 2010. For people who live or work in the Makati area, you guys will be happy to hear this good news.

“The authentic Hainanese Chicken Rice from Singapore is now in Manila!” – claimed by Wee Nam Kee
The Hainanese Chicken of Wee Nam Kee was not only similar but almost exact as the one in Singapore. The chicken itself was cooked in a way wherein you couldn’t taste the fat and oil of it. It was easy to use your spoon and fork as you cut it through, since the meat was tender. Better order their Wee Nam Kee Chicken Rice (by the cup) to match the taste of Hainanese Chicken.
Your Singaporean Hainanese Chicken won’t be complete without the three (3) sauces that go with it – Chili Sauce, Pounded Ginger and Soy Sauce. It is suggested that you mix all three sauces together. As you can see from the photo, you don’t need to ask the waiter for these sauces. They are complimentary, served in every table of Wee Nam Kee.
Aside from the Hainanese Chicken, one dish I couldn’t forget from Wee Nam Kee is their Cereal Prawns. For me, this is a WINNER! 🙂 I find it brilliant on how they used cereals to make the entire dish sweet and tasty. Even without the prawns, I enjoyed eating the cereals alone. “Pwede mo siya papakin!!!”
If you are visiting Wee Nam Kee, you cannot live without tasting this dish. I absolutely recommend it to you. Shrimp lover or not, you will enjoy munching on the crunchy Cereal Prawns, partnered with their rice.
A shot of Wee Nam Kee at night. I wasn’t able to take a photo of the restaurant when I had lunch. Partly was because I only had an hour for lunch break and I had to walk all the way, back and forth to my building. So I had to go back at night and show you how the place looks like. If I had the chance to show you how it looks like during lunch, just imagine all seats are taken and some people are standing outside waiting for their turn to get a table.
12nn at Ayala Triangle, view from Philippine Stock Exchange. I was walking fast to the restaurant so I didn’t really become OC in taking this photo. 🙂
