D’ Amburger Gastropub, Greenhills Town Center

Watching my favored basketball team win the game takes me to the winning side as well. From the point of view of a person who is part of the audience, the screaming and cheering paid off. At the same time, it confirms myself that I made the right choice. The proud feeling is there even though I am not in reality part of the team.

D’ Amburger started at one small stall located in Banchetto, Ortigas more than a year ago. The first time I tried their burgers or their famous Juicy Lucy Burger, I already knew that their burgers have the potential to be known. The quality of burgers I’ve tasted in the past gave me the gut feel that I should cheer and support their brand. Hence, I affirm that I’m not wrong. This team I am supporting is one team you should support too.

May 16, 2012 made history for this business. I am proud to announce that D’ Amburger Gastrolounge was successfully opened to serve their Banchetto customers like me in a more comfortable venue as we eat comfort food including Juicy Lucy and more…

D’ Amburger makes sure that their loyal customers enjoy prepared flamed grilled burgers made of 100% Brazilian beef. According to the chef, all their dishes are MSG-free and Extenders-free. Hearing that as a customer, it gives me confidence that foods I am eating in D’ Amburger are in good hands.

Pizza Burger (Php 350) - Allan, one of the owners, asked me to pick my order from the menu. It took me minutes to pick on what to try first because I was overwhelmed with all the good food on the menu. I wanted to get the classic Juicy Lucy but at the same time I also wanted something different for me to experience. Upon seeing Pizza Burger, I had thoughts that it might be too crazy for me to eat. Well, I chose to be crazy. Took the risk of absorbing thousands of calories just to try their Pizza Burger that is packed with Juicy Lucy patty in between two thick breaded mozzarella as buns.

This crazy burger made my mouth water the minute it was served to us. The texture of their burgers improved from the last time I tasted Juicy Lucy. It wasn’t difficult to slice and chew given that it’s 100% Brazilian beef. Cheese overflowing inside the burger patty was too good to capture on camera. It’s definitely the burger of the hungry and the foodie.

Crab Meat Mac n Cheese (Php 380) - I had doubts that they used real crab meat for the pasta. During my 3rd spoon, I was proven wrong. I tasted something hard while chewing. I checked it and found that I was chewing a tiny crab shell. :-| Thank goodness I didn’t swallow and digested that right away. I had more than 3 spoons and so far no more crab shells on my pasta anymore. Ziti, or large and long macaroni, was used as noodles. The creamy crab roe sauce got me to ignore the crab shell I tasted. Their pasta can add comfort to your pasta and seafood cravings.

Macau Trip : Breakfast at Galaxy Hotel

We rejected breakfast buffet for the first time. Why? First, we didn’t want to be pressured to wake up early just for breakfast buffet. Second, Galaxy Hotel has numerous restaurants to choose from, including their food court with different types of cuisine. Lastly, we didn’t want to be stuffed, leaving no space for more food as we roam around Macau.

Without the pressure of hurrying up for breakfast, we started to freshen up at around 9am, went to the ground floor of Galaxy Hotel and checked out the long lane with various restaurants.

Tsui Wah Restaurant caught our morning hunger with their bread display from the entrance. Bread is the key to my heart at anytime of the day, especially mornings. I automatically made the decision to try out Tsui Wah Restaurant simply because of their breads.

Continental Breakfast ($ 49) - My sister Reine’s typical breakfast. Everything she loves is on this plate. Loaded her belly with these food before heading to our tour around Macau.

Mexico Creamy Yolk Bun ($ 13) - Rough outside texture that tasted creamy and soft inside. Reine didn’t make a mistake in choosing this bread for us. My breakfast was already complete by having one piece of this ducky bun.

Cafe 1771 Winebar

On a Friday evening after a tiring week full of work, the kind of set up I was looking for was this = comfort food + good company + intellectual conversations. My legs were not in the mood to dance in the middle of the dance floor. Is this a sign of aging? Hahaha! But seriously, friday nights are usually spent with friends. Simply to catch up and unwind from the exhausting week.

Going to Cafe 1771 Winebar with my foodie friends last Friday night made me feel that I made the right decision. As soon as I arrived, which was a bit late, they were already starting with some appetizers on the table.

Oyster Rockefeller (Php 550) - The first appetizer served, which attracted me with the oozing melted cheese on top. Grabbed my spoon and after tasting, this line went through my head, “Woah! this tastes so good and expensive!”. When I checked the menu and the price, well I was right. You may think it is overpriced but damn, the cheese and spinach inside would make you forget about the price.

Holy Cow (Php 300) - Holy Cow? Where’s the cow? I mean the meat? The name of this dish confused me. This ultra thin crust pizza is composed of kesong puti, arugula and of course, mozarella cheese. I love that kesong puti flavor stood out. Go pinoy cheese! :)

Meat Plus

Have you ever been to Subic? If you are heading off to Subic, you couldn’t miss on trying out Meat Plus, located in Subic Freeport Zone. Every time we go to Subic, we make it to a point that we eat at Meat Plus, with a hungry stomach.

During my recent visit in Meat Plus, it took me around 5 minutes before I placed my order because I feel like trying every single dish on the menu. Everything looked so delicious and appetizing. By just looking at the cold cuts of the steaks in the freezer makes me want to order a lot. I was thinking of choosing the steak I want from the freezer and ask them to cook depending on the style I want. But when I saw the Roast Beef Belly on the menu, I finally decided on what to order.

Roast Beef Belly - The meat is absolutely soft, tender and juicy, which complements the gravy that is spread all over it. You don’t need to use a knife just to cut your way through the meat. With or without the rice, the meat is delicious by itself. Its price is also reasonable (Php185 - includes your choice of soda).

Solomon Guest House

Upon entering Solomon Guest House, located near DLS-CSB Hotel, you would notice that employees who will welcome and serve you look young and as if they’re only students. In fact, the waiters, waitresses, bartenders and chefs are all HRIM students of College of St. Benilde. Take note that these students aren’t paid to serve you, but the quality of service you will get is even better than other restaurants who ask for service charge. Every term, the team assigned to be in Solomon changes the menu, except for the classic meals like the one I ordered.

Roast Beef - For only Php105, you can already enjoy a big plate of Roast Beef. The mashed potatoes were perfectly fit together with the Roast Beef sauce. However, I didn’t appreciate the meat because it seemed to be not fresh and juicy. It wasn’t tender enough to chew properly.

Tiramisu - Based on how it was served, the dessert seemed to be presentable and different from other Tiramisu cakes for it is served in a glass. Based on how it tasted, average for a dessert and nothing extraordinary but a sweet course is always the perfect way to end a meal.

Budget: Php80-170

“Burger Flags” Flying High

Heading to the North? This burger stall might be one of your reasons to visit Ateneo. Burger Flags, a new stall in Ateneo Jsec, would satisfy your hunger through their tender and juicy grilled burgers. Expect the burgers to be served hot, fresh and meaty. For sure, meat lovers will dig this.
Anyone can have Burger Flags everyday because of their student-friendly price. I posted the Menu above, and it’s for you to decide how affordable the burgers are.

What I’ve tried:
Texas BBQ Burger- The thick patties are grilled well-done. BBQ sauce and onions on top of the patties can create a thrilling BBQ taste that would make you want to finish your entire burger.

BF Favorite- Filled with overflowing melted cheese, fresh mushrooms and a bunch of sliced bacon. If you think Wendy’s has the best Bacon Mushroom Melt, think twice. “Tastes like Wendy’s, only better”, described by one of my friends who tried BF Favorite.

There is a potential in Burger Flags. I would not be surprised if one day, I see branches of Burger Flags around the metro.
