In less than 24 hours, I broke my pact to myself saying, “I will only eat Chinese food on my first day in Hong Kong.” There comes failure, as fast as a cheetah.
Cutting the rope of eating Chinese food brought us to good anyway. We were at Harbour City when our tummies felt the need to grumble. Reine spotted La Locanda, a restaurant unheard from our family, checked the price tag and you know what’s next, asked for a table for 3.
Acclaimed Italian chef Giancarlo Perbellini introduced La Locanda to the Hong Kong dining scene. As I read about him, I found out he is recognized as one of the best Italian Michelin Star chefs. Tracing back to his roots, he inherited the Italians’ style of cooking, using freshest ingredients with their best home-cooking techniques.

The Food:

You call this a container jar, I call this genius! Every Italian restaurant serving focaccia bread with balsamic vinegar and oil must, emphasize on the ‘must’, have one!
Ravioli di Pecorino (HKD 188)
Rate: 5/5
We only ordered what our ladies’ appetites could finish for dinner. Our planned light dinner resulted to an Italian supper of pizza and pasta.
First in line, Ravioli di Pecorino is a dish of few ingredients but a dish of diverse flavors splashing in my mouth. Pockets of homemade ravioli joined with pecorino cheese, apple-caramel, and balsamic vinegar. Contrasting yet works absolutely in sweet harmony.
Genovese (HKD 162)
Rate: 4/5
White pizza with Buffalo mozzarella, green beans, potatoes, and basil pesto. Slightly curious how all these ingredients would jazz up neatly while reading the menu. With no hint of ugliness, Genovese was genuinely a kind of pizza we loved.
Its crust is an authentic Italian dough with a slight touch of Neapolitan style dough because of its thin layer, soft and moist interior and crispness to its crust. Most of all, I think its Buffalo mozzarella gave the pizza more character.

The Ambiance:

Dim lights set the mood for a fine dining yet relaxing ambiance. Still looks casual with its open windows and outside seats, located in the mall’s air-conditioned premises. Long and elevated tables are perfect for big groups chatting over wine and cheese. We chose to stay outside hoping to get clearer photos, from brighter mall lights, than keeping up with yellowish interior lights.
Two chefs saw us taking photos all around the restaurant including their open kitchen by the bar. One of them (I don’t remember which one) approached me and asked if I wanted a photo with them. Haha! Ok here you go chefs, I hope you see your faces on my blog. 🙂
I don’t regret choosing La Locanda over other Chinese cuisine on our first day. Still salivating over their ravioli up to this day.
