In the small island of Guam, two days might be enough to feed your eyes with breathtaking sights. Using rental car services, you would be able to manage your time exploring the island. Exactly what our group did, we toured the island using an SUV we rented. Commuting is not the wisest decision. You might find a cab going to your destination, but be stressed in waiting for one when going back to your hotel. If Guam is on your travel list this year, here are some of the attractions I would recommend.
Fish Eye Marine Park
Fish Eye Marine Park is a famous spot for tourists because of its preserved undersea observatory. Called as the “Piti Bomb-hole,” because of the bombs dropped into the coral reefs, during the world war. The long wooden bridge will require a little exercise from you, a long walk leading you to the bottom of the sea without getting your body wet. Walk down to the lower deck and that’s where you’ll safely watch the fish eat and swim, observe the underwater coral gardens, like in an aquarium, from 24 windows (16 regular and 8 round). There’s no elevator for senior citizens. Everyone would have to walk down the spiral staircase if you want to see brilliant yellow butterflyfish, silvery jacks, trumpetfish, snapper and more.
If you’re into some action and interaction, team up with professional divers and let them teach you more about the marine life.
Inarajan Natural Pools
Free for all! Everyone is welcome to get their bodies into the natural bathing pools of Inarajan. Take your picnic basket with you, you can camp all day. Since it’s a natural habitat, fish swimming around you is normal. You can wear your snorkelling gear and see how clean and clear the water is.
There’s a shallow part, there’s a deeper part. The rocks can be dangerously slippery, which is why I wore my water (swim) shoes for my safety. If you have kids with you, warn them to watch their steps and not go too far from your sight. Not that I’m being KJ, it’s just better to be safe than sorry.
Two Lovers Point
With or without your lover, make sure to drop by Two Lovers Point to be mesmerized by the sea view of Guam.
Like in Korea’s N Seoul Tower, Guam has its version of love locks. Couples would most likely want to write down their messages or promises to each other on love locks. Some are hung on fences or on rocks. There’s a store by the entrance where you can purchase your love locks.
Did we join the bandwagon? Nope. We’re ‘kuripot’ (thrifty) like that. Haha!
The story behind Two Lovers Point, which is the legend of Puntan Dos Amantes, is written and illustrated on the stones.
From the cliff, what awaits you is the panoramic view of the Philippine Sea and Tumon Bay, where most hotels are built.
War in the Pacific, National Historic Park
To appreciate Guam, learn its history. The small yet comprehensive War in the Pacific National Historic Park has a museum that will show you how Guam reached its position now through time. Mostly with the help of the Americans, we understood what the Chamorros’ went through during the war period and how they became part of the United States of America.
Noises muted, the sound of nature is common in these tourist sights I listed. The peacefulness of the island of Guam is what I’m missing whenever I’m stuck in the middle of Manila traffic. If I have the chance to travel this weekend, I’d want to go back and experience Guam once again.
