“It’s better late than never”.
Tita Maris celebrated her birthday last July and supposed to have dinner with the entire family on the same week. Unfortunately, busy schedules went in between. So we had no choice but to delay the celebration. Even though plans didn’t follow accordingly and had a slight delay, celebrating Tita’s birthday was still fresh to us when we all gathered one Sunday evening at The Frazzled Cook.
The Frazzled Cook is actually a recommendation by Tita Nina Daza-Puyat, Appetite Magazine’s editor-in-chief.

Bugsy and I had a difficult time in choosing what to order. Most of the dishes sounded so scrumptious. So what I did was to just ask the server what their best sellers are. And from that, I made some selections.

Tita ordered this Tenderloin and Sausage Pizza (Php 350) as our appetizer. Thick and medium slices of tenderloin was on top of the semi-thin crust pizza, which I thought would be hard to chew. When I took a bite, I was wrong. Munching on the beef didn’t take time in my mouth. Hehe. The beef was cooked just fine, which kept its flavor in it.

Lengua with Mushroom and Corn (Php 350) – This was the order of Grandma. I wasn’t able to taste it actually. 😀 I just want to show how yummy-looking this dish is!

Wagyu Salpicao (Php 510) – Mom chose the best one for that night. I can say that this is my top pick! You’ll never go wrong with Wagyu beef + garlic chunks. FYI, ‘Wa’ means Japanese and ‘Gyu’ means cattle. If you eat in Japanese restaurants, you will certainly encounter Wagyu beef on their menu and be wowed by its price. I am surprised that this Wagyu Salpicao is not that expensive as I expected. It’s not cheap but it’s reasonable for its high quality meat. Hands down to Chef Jude for this simple yet irresistibly good food!

Tenderloin Nuggets with Mashed Potatoes in Flat Bread (Php 350) – My sister Reine is fond of mashed potatoes and beef. When she saw the dish on the menu, she was already convinced on what to get. I love how the presentation made the dish look more convincing to eat. According to her taste-buds, the potatoes were mashed finely, which blends well with the tender beef and its gravy. She made a unique selection that night.

Spicy Cajun Fish and Saffron Rice (Php 375) – Chef used cream dory for this one. One thing I love about cream dory is that the price is affordable. It’s a good choice for making fish filleted dishes. At first glance, it looked Mexican to me. Then when I tasted it, I felt like I was back in India because of the many spices I tasted. The piquant taste made me want to finish this big plate of Cajun Fish.

Pizza Caprese (Php 270) – That’s not cream on top, it’s Kesong Puti. Mandy ordered this pizza because she didn’t want an overloaded pizza, with too much meat and other toppings. Just like me, I want my pizza to be simple with lotsa cheese! It was my first time to try kesong puti on my pizza and I actually had a ‘love at first sight’ reaction to it. 🙂 Good choice Mandy!

Pancake Ala Mode (Php 180)

Crepe Cake – Not a new taste for me but it’s the kind of dessert every sweet tooth would want. Just imagine slices of crepe piled up together with some sweet cream in between. Then added with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

If you have been to Cafe Juanita, the peg of this restaurant is similar to that. When I talked to the chef, he said that he simply put out all of his excess things and furnitures in this restaurant. No concept in mind. What he wanted is to make his restaurant feel like “home”.

His concept of home reflected perfectly in this restaurant. There are some antiques, wooden chairs you can find in your grandma’s house, postcards pasted on the walls, and more. You won’t get bored in here. In every corner of your eye, there is something new to see.

Classic and looks so expensive. Something you can find in your grandma’s house. Hehe.

Hello Kitty! Don’t you find their spoon cute? 🙂

The birthday lady! 🙂

My new short hair! 🙂

Almost 11pm on our watch, we didn’t notice that the store was about to close. They were just waiting for us to finish with our chikahans.

The next time I go back to The Frazzled Cook, it will be with my friends. I’m sure this is the kind of place where we can catch up and have long conversations. 🙂
