Mission for the day: Take photos of people who would join the Chicken Wings Eating Contest of Manang’s.
However, mission failed. 🙁 Why? Manang’s announced that I, Jill Bantang, would be part of the contest. I was like, “WHAAAT?!?!?! SERIOUSLY!?!?!?” 😮 Then they repeatedly say, Jill Bantang. That sent the bolt from the blue! I didn’t know what to do and was in a state of confusion.
Backing out was at the back of my head. I wanted to pass my spot to someone else. Series of questions came to me also like “How can I take photos?”, “What about my mission for the day?”.
But.. it was too late to back-out. Screw the plan, I was IN! I took the challenge and joined the eating contest! Whew!
Each contestant was served a plate of Manang’s hot & spicy chicken wings. (4pcs – Php99, 6pcs- Php149)
We were given 3 minutes ONLY to finish as much as we can. 3, 2, 1…GO!
The sweet/salty/spicy/crispy/juicy soy chicken wings were incredibly good. I think the chicken wings served to us were Extra Spicy and literally hot, fresh from the kitchen. Just to let you know, you have the option to pick your spice level – Original, Mild Spicy or Extra Spicy. If I were to choose, I’d pick Mild Spicy for my Manang’s Chicken.
The given time was tough for me. It was a challenge to enjoy a delicious dish in only 3 minutes. Naloka ako, no joke! Overwhelming chicken on my plate made my Manang’s experience memorable!
[Thank you Yna Amores for this shot and the next one too.]
Myas, the guy beside me, was so intimidating! He was so fast and furious with those chicken wings! I couldn’t concentrate and was amused on how crazily he ate those chicken wings.
…because I lost 🙁 Presenting to you MY plate.
Compare it with this one, the WINNER / CHICKEN MONSTER, Myas! Sarap to the bones!!!
Right after the eating contest, Manang’s spoiled us with other dishes on their menu. Affordable Manang’s Chips & Dips (Regular – Php30, Large – Php49) cooled me down after the heavy eating contest. This all-natural potato chips delighted me, while I was talking to other bloggers. If there were bags of chips I could buy, I would get a dozen for my sister who loves potato chips.
I liked the crisp and crunch, together with the dips, Garlic Mayo (Php7) and Creamy Cheese (Php7).
Imagine your ordinary ice tea with a strong squeeze of lemon, that’s how their Iced Tea (Regular – Php30, Large – Php40) tasted.
The second floor of Manang’s Chicken looked clean, fresh and smelled new.
Youth-oriented hot spot in Katipunan. Fit for those who study around the area.
Couldn’t help but take a photo of this. “Restrooms”, but there is only one room. Hehe 😀
Great to meet friendly people there! 🙂
Meet Jill! No, not me. The witty and talented lady behind Manang’s Chicken.
Fun Facts:
Manang’s was named after Jill’s family cook who created the treasured family recipe.
They started out last 2010 at Mercato Centrale. Words of mouth, blogs and features about them helped the name Manang’s become more soundly to the public.
