In our family, the term ‘birthday’ is rarely used. The translation of birthday for us is BirthWEEK. I grew up celebrating my ‘birthday’ as a ‘birthWEEK’. For one whole week on my birthWEEK, my family exerts effort to fill my week with surprises and gifts. It has become a tradition to us. Whether it is my birthday, mom’s, dad’s or my sister’s, the element of birthWEEK applies. Hence, my sister got the same treatment from the whole family. We gave her a week of feeling extra special to celebrate her birthWEEK.
I’m sharing with you one of my sister’s celebration for her birthWEEK. This was the celebration with her friends in Yakimix, Podium, which happened two days before her actual birthday.
My sister and her friends proceeded to Yakimix right after going to the youth service in CCF. Mom reserved a room for them for some privacy. You know kids nowadays, they want to be with their group alone and feel weird if their parents are around. So what my mom did is to get a small function room exclusive for my sister and her friends while we, mom, dad and Tito Jim, stayed in another table near the buffet table. Hehe.
Mom chose Yakimix for my sister’s celebration with her friends because of my sister’s love for Japanese and Chinese food. Thinking that those teenagers might be shy in getting food from the table if we choose ‘a la carte’ for them, mom made sure that everyone’s tummy will be satisfied. We felt that buffet-style restaurant would be the best choice for everyone.
Each table in Yakimix has their own frying pan. The fun part in dining here is that you can cook raw ready-to-cook meats in just a few minutes. As seen in the photo above, the buffet table offers a wide selection of different Asian dishes.
What you can see closely is a set of Korean foods, which you can cook on your own. Spot the Kimchi, the ever famous Korean dish! The meats in Yakimix are made sure to be fresh all the time. You’ll know it is fresh when the meat is still juicy and you can chew it easily, not like a rubberized meat.
No need to worry about the taste of the raw meats you get. They are all ready to fry on the pan, marinated well in different flavors and styles. In fact, there is a corner where you can get different kinds of sauces for cooking. Just make sure that you cook them right without burning them.
I admit, there were times I burned the meats while cooking because of enjoying the food on my plate too much. I often forget that something was frying on the pan. Yayks! 😐
My sister and her barkada are happy guests of Yakimix. As far as I can remember, they had 4-5 rounds, with full plates. [Sorry for spoiling this fact girls :D]
While my sister and her friends were having their pictures taken, they were all surprised to this…
Mom made the waiters sing Happy Birthday to my sister. The ‘birthday tradition’ I suppose. My sister didn’t think that we would do this to her in Yakimix. So again, she was surprised in a way.
Seeing my baby sister joyful makes my heart feel extremely exuberant. I praise God for my sister. She’s like THE BEST!!!
The impromptu birthday “cake”.
The adults stayed outside so that the teenage girls will have their ‘privacy’.
With the BEST-est Mom in the world!!! 😉
Happy BirthWEEK my favorite sister! I love you so much and I will never get tired of spoiling you and feeding you :))
Pray, Eat and Love.
