The celebration started with Japanese, and now it ends with none other than… Japanese.
My dad’s 50th birthWEEK will not be complete without his close friends. Before his birthWEEK was over, Dad invited few of his friends to make his 50th special. Being the Food Scout, I was assigned to pick which restaurant to celebrate. While roaming around the Tomas Morato area, I spotted on this new buffet restaurant with a big sign “10 + 1”, illustrating 10 persons with 1 free person for the buffet. That surely caught my attention. Hence, the pick for dad’s 50th was Matsuri
For the kind of crowd my dad has, a sit-down buffet is the ultimate choice. Their age group would prefer to sit down, make some ‘chikka’, and let the food flow on their table. In this kind of setting, the waiter will give you the menu and you just have to order everything/anything you want. No need to stand up and go to the buffet table. Just stay put and wait to be served. Heavy eaters will enjoy for sure.
The photo above is one of my favorites! It’s Salmon Sashimi with tempura flakes on top.
Similar to how the salmon sashimi was cooked, this Tuna Sushi should be part of your list to order.
When you’re there in Matsuri, you would forget the names of what you order because there are a lot, literally! If I were you, just tell the waiter to give you all their best sellers. Besides, it’s buffet! No harm to try ALL of them! 🙂
My Japanese meal would not be satisfied if I don’t get my plate of plain and fresh Salmon Sashimi. I like how the sashimi was sliced, very easy to grab using chopsticks.
If Salmon Sashimi is for me, my sister Reine’s top of mind is this Tempura. As usual, she ordered for Ebi Tempura to satisfy her Japanese dinner. The Ebi Tempura was served hot, straight from the kitchen. The crispiness and freshness of prawns made my sister finish more than 1 plate. It was really her favorite!
An order of Angus Teppan costs around Php400. That’s quite a splurge if you ask me. By availing the eat-all-you-can promo, you can save more money. Angus Teppan is also part of the menu where you can choose from. We valued our money and asked for numerous plates of Angus Teppan.
On the other hand, in terms of quality, I could say that the meat was really juicy and tasted expensive. The garlic bits made me appreciate it more. Include this on your list when you order.
I found my new favorite that night! Aside from my first pick Salmon Sashimi, this Gyu Teriyaki Don was the best-seller for everyone. On our table, more than 5 plates of Gyu Teriyaki Don was served. Thin slices of beef, sweetened and flavored the way we like it. The teriyaki sauce was stuck to the meat, which resulted to a fullness of flavor. Don’t forget to ask the waiter for this dish as soon as you visit Matsuri

Before ending a dinner, a plate of dessert is a must. I didn’t expect their dessert to be something special for some reason. When they served us this Leche Flan or Creme Caramel, I was surprised because it tasted delightful. Although the dessert was not Japanese, it still satisfied me.
Matsuri was consistent from start to end. Quality food, great service from the accommodating and friendly waiters, and reasonable price.

Say hello to dad’s friends! 🙂

Happy BirthWEEK again to my one and only bowling coach, back-scratcher, favorite driver and corniest joker, my loving DAD! 🙂
Pray, Eat and Love.
