They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Well, I have no objections to that. In fact, breakfast food is like comfort food to me. Filipino breakfast food like tapsilog, longsilog, tocilog and all the ‘silog’ out there aren’t just right for breakfast but any time of the day. Pancakes are also comfort food to me.
Our maid makes the right kind of fluffy pancakes, which starts my day right when I eat that for breakfast. One Saturday, I had to miss out on breakfast to prepare myself for a lunch I knew I’ll be eating a bunch. From the menu, I didn’t want to stuff my belly with too much food. Preparation for my stomach was the game plan. I just didn’t risk the chance of not trying the best dishes at the newest comfort food restaurant at the new East Wing of Shangri-la Mall called
Maple.
”Comfort is at the core of Maple menu.” They limit their menu to dishes that will define comfort to your bellies. From its name Maple, obviously the key ingredient they use is maple syrup. Through the use of their primary and main ingredient, maple syrup, customers of Maple wouldn’t leave the place without experiencing high-quality type of maple-based comfort meals.

Blueberry & Cream Cheese Pancake Tower (Php 450)
Rate: 5/5 |
Can you try guessing how many layers of pancakes this is? This tower of pancakes are layered with blueberries and cream cheese in between. Every piece of pancake is loaded with flavors of blueberry and cream cheese. The batter of pancakes itself is way better than the famous franchise pancake people are raving about. According to Maple, they way they cook their pancakes is similar to how you do souffles. That makes their pancakes stand out. Oh, the answer to how many layers of buttermilk pancakes is 6.

Maple Buttermilk Pancakes (Php 275)
Rate: 4/5 |
Simple layers of light pancakes with powdered sugar dispersed on the plate. The distinct ingredient that will make this simple pancakes turn sophisticated is the pure maple syrup, which you can get at Maple as well. Just add Php 75 for a small container of pure maple syrup. After trying the pure maple syrup, my standards in eating my pancakes went up one notch higher. I now know the difference of eating over-the-counter maple syrup and pure maple syrup on my pancakes.

Chilean Mussels (Php 375)
Rate: 4/5 |
This pan of chilean mussels is cooked in premium beer and saffron sauce. I wasn’t able to notice the beer flavor until I used my spoon to scoop the bottom part of the dish and get a tablespoon of beer and saffron sauce. The crostini works well with the sauce too.

Maple House Salad (Php 375)
Rate: 3/5 |
A new favorite salad. Fresh mesclun and veggies sprinkled with maple glazed pecans and parmesan flakes. Included roasted shallot vinaigrette to finish the salad with posh flavor.

Spaetzle Jambalaya (Php 390)
Rate: 5/5 |
Instead of using rice, spaetzle pasta was used to create this jambalaya style appetizer at Maple. Now that’s creative. The spice of jambalaya is impressive, mild spice that fits Filipino taste of spiciness. On top of this Spaetzle Jambalaya are chilean mussels and shrimps. Readers, this is a must-try at Maple. You will regret your visit if this pan of Jambalaya is not on your table. I lift my thumbs up for this dish.

The Maple Salmon Catch (Php 550)
Rate: 3/5 |
I will never be out of my mood to have salmon as my breakfast, lunch or dinner. I’m not into too much flavors when it comes to how my salmon is cooked. A simple steam, grill, or pan-seared is alright with me. Maple’s salmon is not opposing to my standards. I like how it is plated and seasoned with various flavors and ingredients like Texas summer vegetables and orzo pasta. Also a dish in Maple I fancy.

Rib Eye Steak
(Php 1,050/USDA Angus; Php 1,680/USDA Angus Prime Grade)
Rate: 3/5 |
A pinch of this steak could give pleasure to your taste-buds already. But of course, you wouldn’t go to Maple for just a pinch. One rib-eye steak can feed 1-2 persons, depends on how much you eat of course. I didn’t drown myself on this because I need to save some space for other meaty dishes. If you are all about meat and satisfied with steak, then have one rib eye steak all for yourself.

Drippin’ Baby Back Ribs (Php 850)
Rate: 3/5 |
Slow roasted baby back ribs with special homemade barbecue sauce. I know it seems pricey for a plate. That’s a fact! Not really my favorite at Maple but I heard some of my seat-mates were delighted to have slices of these ribs on their plates.

Prime Rib Tapa (Php 520)
Rate: 5/5 |
My main dish I only had for myself. Well I kinda shared some to my seat-mates but this plate is entirely for me. Haha! One big slab of prime rib tapa plus 2 sunny-side up eggs and garlic rice. This is tapsilog at its peak! I enjoyed the garlic flavored rice with juicy and tender marinated steak for lunch. Skipping breakfast was worth it because of this rib eye tapa.
See that medium cooked steak? Just the way I like my steak to be done. Mmmmm, yummy!!! I tried either vinegar or atchara to add more flavor to every piece of steak I intake. But even without both, the marinade of
tapa can survive alone.

Bourbon Bread Pudding (Php 220)
Rate: 4/5 |
A traditional American favorite. Share one order with a friend and be sweetened with their glazed bread pudding with bourbon creme anglaise or you can choose a la mode as another option. Choose a la mode, with ice cream to blend and contrast both temperatures and get the right kind of dessert mix. I wanted to get more than 3 bites but the prime rib tapa got me stuffed that lunch.
Free bread while waiting, or in between meals, or even after dessert. Their maple glazed soft bread won my heart. Simply irresistible to say no to their complimentary basket of bread.
Their menu looks like an encyclopedia. Wait a minute, do you guys still keep encyclopedia books in your homes? Or just rely on the internet? Just a random thought. #90skid
The posh yet homey ambiance of
Maple is not that intimidating. The interiors are welcoming, as it gives you comfort through their American comfort food.
Thank you Maple team for accommodating me. That 3-hour lunch was not only filled with awesome food but with funny and interesting stories. 🙂
To be honest, Maple is not a place where you can go on a regular day if you are on a budget. It shows that the prices are a bit costly and might not be comfortable for your pockets. But one thing is for sure at Maple, the satisfaction is what you’ll get after tasting their best-selling dishes, which includes their Jambalaya, Prime Rib Tapa, Steak and pancakes. You are getting what you pay for and not wasting a penny after tasting their impressive dishes at Maple. It’s a place I’ll be going back and forth.
Cheers,
