What makes you push the door of a new restaurant and go in? Could be the familiarity, the ambiance, the affordability, the popularity, the food marketing photos, the promo and discounts, etc. etc. etc. List goes on and on. How about this question… What makes you snob a new restaurant and don’t even bother trying it?
One could be “intimidation”. I want to concentrate on this since few weeks ago, I visited one new restaurant at Fort that looks quite intimidating from the outside.
Seven on 7th is a newly opened restaurant by a group of young businessmen who decided to venture on food. If you ask them a short back story, they were persuaded by their love for eating and the unsatisfactory feeling that occurs in them after eating in a restaurant that does not deliver what they pay for.  This new restaurant specializes on European cuisine, a jungle of the owners’ favorites with a touch of their executive chef’s favorites, Chef Jay Rollan. From that cuisine itself, you know we are not talking about cheap food here. The word intimidation comes in that refrains you from pushing the glass door of Seven on 7th. Fort as your location plus something European sounds very pricey to me. But actually, you shouldn’t be afraid of pushing that door. Seven on 7th might look pricey but if you compare it among other European restaurants around Fort, you are actually on the lower side of price range.
Later, you’ll find out what hit my taste bank and what slipped by.

The Food:

Complimentary Bread Rolls
Starting a meal with complimentary appetizers gives a plus point for any restaurant. Butter with herbs is made from scratch.

Wild Mushroom Soup (Php 300) / Seven Bistro Salad (Php 450)
Rate: 3/5
I started my soup wild with their Wild Mushroom Soup accompanied with Seven Bistro Salad. The soup with fresh button mushroom, shitake, baby portobello, enoki, mushroom saute and trufle oil is a wild combination of mushrooms but worked out crazily good for me. I love enoki and truffle oil put together. Truffle oil is not too much that don’t smell stingy. I know some who get annoyed with truffle oil smell. With this soup, it’s just a touch of truffle oil that don’t swim into the soup.
My full plate of goodness at Seven on 7th.
This is only a portion, not the actual serving. Don’t you worry, the actual is a lot bigger than this one.
Duo of Lamb (Php 1375)
Rate: 3/5
Australian rack of lamb, grilled boneless lamb leg, garlic mash, ratatouille, mint jelly, port wine sauce. According to chef, better not to add any condiment or sauce on your lamb or steak. The entire Duo of Lamb serves as one package to give you your needed carbs and protein. I qualify this as my second favorite.
Hanger Steak (Php 750)
Rate: 4/5
Number 1 favorite from Seven on 7th is this Hanger Steak. Grilled onglet that’s soft, juicy and too difficult not to finish. This steak will give you reason to visit Seven on 7th. We all know steak is intimidating for the budget. Their steak is friendlier among their competitors around the luxurious area of Fort.

More Hanger Steak please??

Bell Pepper Pomodoro (Php 375)
Rate: 3/5
Seven pomodoro sauce, roasted bell peppers, basil pesto, tomatoes, queso blanco, parmigiano reggiano, Italian sausage. Seven on 7th knows what to add on their spaghetti. The fact they added slices of Italian sausage makes their pasta more legit as a European plate. Garnished with herbs, the plate looked classy and “sosyal” to me. Again, don’t be intimidated with the price. It’s still reasonable to get a plate of Bell Pepper Pomodoro knowing you’re in this posh area.
White Chocolate Panna Cotta with Basil Cremeux (Php 325)
Rate: 5/5
Aside from the steak, this is what you’ll love at Seven on 7th! The White Chocolate Panna Cotta with Basil Cremeux is fantastic!
I commend their pastry chef for this superb dessert. Almond streusel, strawberry coulis and fresh fruits presented in this glass of Panna Cotta. It looks lovely to me! Instagram-worthy!

Baked Cheesecake (Php 275)
Rate: 4/5
I may be biased to the taste of Panna Cotta but I couldn’t deny their Baked Cheesecake is also fantastic!
Bright future for their winner pastry chef for being so meticulous in preparing desserts. This cheesecake is another masterpiece that I enjoyed eating at Seven on 7th.

The Ambiance:

Inside, you see it’s not a fine dining set-up for the kind of European food you get. Casual with a touch of sophistication.
Notice that you don’t have to race up to where the couch is. In every table, you get your couch to sit on.
I would never miss taking photos of chandeliers!
Why go back to Seven on 7th? Absolutely for their steak and desserts!
