The Binondo Church, Ongpin Street, Divisoria, Arranque market, are some of gems that keeps the town of Binondo alive. Binondo, also known as Chinatown, is my top of mind for genuine Hokkien cuisine. People living in Metro Manila knows for the fact that anything you need cheap, you go straight to Binondo. Talk about food, clothing, gadgets, Binondo is complete with anything affordable and suitable for your budget. The casual streets of Binondo gives you the old picture of ancient Chinese town. Now, you have the choice to enter into the modern gates of Chinese town by entering Lucky Chinatown Mall, the hippest and newest mall in the heart of Chinatown.
From the famous King Chef of Banawe, King Chef Seafood Restaurant is now reigning as king in Lucky Chinatown Mall. All sorts of Chinese cuisine in Binondo but not all are fit for a king. Feast like a king the Cantonese way with a selection of Chinese appetizers, dimsum, main courses, and many more!
Baked Seafood Apple Rate: 5/5 |
My feast started like a queen with Baked Seafood Apple that I’d say a mile away from your typical Chinese appetizers. The art of using apples not only as decorative pieces but as an ingredient to modernize gets more attention from me and my taste.
The combination of shrimp, squid, fish, mushrooms and taro with coconut milk, baked inside an apple is surely a hit! Bringing in some healthy touch to start my Chinese feast.
Shark’s Fin with Chicken Soup Rate: 4/5 |
When I posted this photo on Instagram, my friends and followers reacted. The word shark’s fin sounds like noise, disturbing some of my environmentalist peers. I’m sorry guys but Shark’s Fin with Chicken Soup is too delicious to resist. Clear native chicken broth with slices of ham, chicken and of course shark’s fin to complete this delicate soup. The gentle clear soup slips through my throat easily as it gives a relaxing sensation while finishing a small bowl of it.
Crystal Prawn Balls Rate: 4/5 |
Sauteed prawn balls with shreds of onion leeks, bell peppers, corriander and Chinese shrimp paste. The colorful plate may be difficult to ruin but as you fork a piece of shrimp, you wouldn’t stop from getting another until the next dish is served to stop you.
Freshness of shrimps, very tough to resist!
Garlic Burst Spareribs Rate: 4/5 |
The classic favorite of Filipinos and Chinese. The burst of garlic in every piece of spareribs brings glory to this dish.
It’s a simple dish yet bursting with flavors of garlic. You’ll fall in love with garlic even more with this Garlic Burst Spareribs.
Braised Bamboo Pith with 2 Kinds Mushroom Rate: 3/5 |
Vegetarians have a room at King Chef. Treated like royalty with this plate with bamboo fungus, or bamboo pith, stuffed with enoki mushrooms, paired with black mushroom, resting on a bed of lettuce, glazed with oyster sauce. May be monochrome as it looks but the taste won’t fail you even if you’re not digging the vegetarian side.
Stuffed Eggplant in Japanese Sauce Rate: 5/5 |
I must say, this is one of my favorites! Like some of you who hates eggplant, I was one of you guys. I despise eggplant that I don’t even dare to try anything with eggplant on the table. I’d rather eat ampalaya than eggplant. By trying Stuffed Eggplant in Japanese sauce, I completely changed my interest in eggplant. Turned me upside down! I was hooked to this whole eggplant stuffed with juicy and tasty shrimp ball mixture, fried until golden brown. What made it more out of the usual is the Japanese sauce, a unique sweet salty sauce that complements the freshness of the shrimp ball and eggplant.
French Beans with Salted Egg Rate: 5/5 |
French Beans with Salted Egg tantalized me until the end of my royalty feast. My number one favorite from King Chef. The perfect vegetarian dish for me! Coated with melted salted egg that gives plain crunchy beans more color and life. The vegetarian in me was relived by this dish. It was hooking me too much that even if dessert was served, my eyes were still focused on the beans.
You have to try this!! I seriously recommend this dish. 🙂
Satay Seafood Sotanghon in Hotpot Rate: 4/5 |
King Chef became known in Banawe because of this classic Satay Seafood Sotanghon in Hotpot. It’s a combination of plump and juicy shrimps, squid and fish fillet in mildly spicy satay sauce topped on sotanghon in a hotpot. Cantonese Soup Kitchen customers still look for this in King Chef. No doubt, still a best-seller!
Fruit Burst Rate: 4/5 |
To set away from your usual Mango Sago, Buchi or Taro Sago, Fruit Burst is a new dessert to love that suits your sweet and healthy taste. A combination of tropical fruit balls (watermelon, mango and melon) with fruit jelly balls immersed in a fruity citrus base with crushed ice to cool you down.
Tea cups for tea addicts like me.
Rooms are available for celebrations and big groups.
Thank you Boss Spanky and Marites Ang for this Chinese feast!
I’m loving Binondo even more because of King Chef.
Lucky Chinatown Mall is very lucky to have King Chef as one of their main Chinese restaurants.
