Looking for a decent affordable shabu shabu place in Metro Manila is quite challenging for me. Ever since my parents introduced the concept of shabu shabu to my curious taste buds, to be exact that’s more than 10 years ago, I’ve noticed how pricey shabu shabu sets are as I browse through each menu. When I learned about the affordable Taza Mix, a smokeless grill & shabu shabu place around the block of Ortigas Ave, my reflex told myself, “I must share this news to the foodies!” And that means “you” guys!
For the clueless readers, Shabu shabu is a type of dish originated from the Japanese that features thinly sliced meat, specifically beef, boiled in water. Well, as you read the post you’ll see that you aren’t limited to beef alone. In other words, the Chinese call this “hot pot”.
The Sauce:
You will be given 1 set of various sauces as a complement of your shabu shabu. The freedom is yours to spice up your own sauces. If you are frightened you might mess up your shabu shabu sauce, the courteous servers of Taza Mix will assist you.

The special ingredient that makes your sauce more pumped up.
Sometimes, I overkill my sauce by abusing it with chopped garlic.
Peanut sauce, I only add a teaspoon of this to my complete my sauce.

Shabu Shabu:
One (1) Shabu Shabu set (Php 850) includes the following:

And look, slices of Lamb are available! This isn’t part of 1 shabu shabu set but you have the option to request for additional meat like Sliced Lamb.

Friendly reminder, be sure to submerge all ingredients given to you. Just take note of those ingredients that cook easily, you wouldn’t want to eat overcooked vegetables and meat right?

Shabu Shabu Set (Php 850) Rate: 4/5 |
Take a look at those meat balls and lobster balls. Ready to dip in your shabu shabu sauce and ready to be eaten with rice or simply its clear soup.
My personal favorites: cheese balls, lobster balls, shrimps, lamb and those green veggies that balances my intake of meat.

From The Grill:

Imported L.A. Ribs (Php 380) Rate: 4/5 |
The marinade is generally leaning on the sweet side. No complaints because I love how it was grilled.
A friendly tip before munching on those imported L.A. Ribs. After it comes out from the grill, you can let your ribs rest a bit before shooting them inside your mouth. This allows its juice to distribute evenly. Actually, this rule of thumb applies to any type of meat.

Salmon Belly (Php 250) Rate: 3/5 |
Any dish with salmon in it becomes one step closer to my hearty appetite.
It could be a little too sweet at first but after 2 bites, you’ll get used to it. The freshness of salmon overpowers its sweetness.
