All set to see the talk of the town, Underground River of Palawan.
We woke up before the sun rose up, took a shower, covered our skin with sunblock and wore our rash guards. Well, only the ladies had their rash guards on. The men didn’t mind to get uneven darkness for their arms. Haha! From Aziza Paradise Hotel, we were picked up by a van with other Filipino tourists.
On the road to Underground River, we stopped by Taratat Store and Souvenir for a quick restroom break.
I was sitting at the far left of the van, so most of the time my face was angled to the left. For a moment, I faced 90 degrees to the right and was captured by the magnificent view. The van took a short stop for us to go down and take a photo with the view.
Ugong Rock Adventures with the family |
I was itching to see the Underground River but the tour guide brought us to Ugong Rock Adventures before the main event.
Ugong Rock is a limestone formation, another tourist spot to be found in Puerto Princesa, where you could go cave hiking, climbing and zip-lining. For the adventure seekers, you couldn’t resist stepping inside Ugong Rock’s adventurous cave.
But before any adventure begins, one thing to note down is to ensure anyone’s health. My parents are very adventurous but cautious and careful at the same time. Ugong Rock initiates a free blood pressure check-up for everyone, especially to those of age. Dad and Mom sat at the blood pressure check-up station to see if they’re ready to conquer Ugong Rock. Any adventure could turn faulty and sour if any accidents might occur. Better be safe than sorry! 🙂
Praise God, my parents were ready to go on with the adventure with us. I couldn’t resist but take a photo with the striking message for everyone saying, “Nature is beautiful and we are stewards of God’s creation.”
Ugong Rock Cave Entrance |
I was told that the best time to take the Ugong Rock hike is in the morning before seeing the Underground River. Why? Maybe it’s always better to save the best for last. 🙂
Lo and behold, this is the Ugong Rock.
I found my playground. Swing time! 😉
I found my spot. I wanted to swing and relax, but time to move on.
One of the challenges to count, we climbed up the rocks a couple of times wearing a harness and without a harness as well. Oh, and there were steep ladders to encounter as well. Please make sure your footwear is not flimsy.
Another challenge was to fit in between the rocks. That was my huge smile showing I fit in! Baby accomplishment while inside the cave. Haha!
Climbing up was worth my time! The view stuns anyone who stands on that spot. It took about 40 minutes from the cave entrance to reach that peak spot.
Going down, we were given two options to consider. We could either walk back or ride the zip line back to the home base, where we started.
I definitely chose the zip line!!!
Riding the zip line has an additional charge depending on the position style – superman or sitting position. Ugong Rock knew Superman is more fun, reason why it’s more expensive. Boooo!
The zip line ride zoomed in too fast for less than 30 seconds. While waiting for my parents, I took advantage of the “duyan” I saw. I needed to recharge for the most exciting part of the trip, the Underground River!
Tips:
1. Bring a small bottle of water since it gets really thirsty when you reach the top.
2. I suggest pack one umbrella for the group just in case the rain pours heavily. You know the weather in the Philippines, very unpredictable.
3. Better wear your athletic footwear or sturdy sandals.
4. Wear comfortable clothes.
We didn’t follow any of that since we were unprepared and unaware of passing by Ugong Rock. Talk about spontaneity! Haha! But we survived! :))
Don’t forget to include Ugong Rock Adventures on your list for your trip to Puerto Princesa Palawan!
