IPL Photorejuvenation was recommended to me by one of YSA Galleria’s skin advisor. Initially, I was planning to set my schedule for a full facial treatment. As my favorite skin advisor Kath discussed to me the pros of IPL Photorejuvenation, I was convinced to choose that treatment instead. For a person who’s always on-the-go, speedy procedures like IPL Photorejuvenation tend to catch my attention.
IPL (Intensed Pulsed Light) Photorejuvenation is an alternative procedure to achieve a younger and healthier looking skin. Based on my experience, I can tell you the method used is safe, effective and painless.

From the word rejuvenate, my intention was to refresh and revitalize my skin and close unwanted open pores. The treatment can be used effectively on the neck, chest and hands but most recommended for the face.
Q: What other conditions can IPL Photorejuvenation treat?
A: Aside from refreshing your skin, this treatment is also applicable to other facial flaws.
 -Imperfections from sun damage
-Rosacea
-Enlarged pores
-Acne scars
-Dull complexions
-birthmarks
-unsightly veins and other blemishes
-unwanted hair
-other facial imperfections

The Procedure:

First, wash your face to remove any product used for your face – make up, moisturizer, powder, etc. I thought my moisturizer could pass and refrain me from washing my face anymore. It didn’t pass. I still had to start with step 1. All branches of YSA Skin & Body Experts has the facility to allow you to wash your face.
I was directed to the treatment room to start my IPL procedure. Lied down and my eyes were covered by the dark goggles given to me. This will protect my eyes from the bright flashing lights of the IPL machine. If you remember my IPL Laser Hair Removal blogpost, IPL Photorejuvenation uses the same machine to conduct the facial treatment.
Kath warned me of the cold gel she’d squeeze on my forehead. I shrieked for a second with that sudden surprise of coldness.
With my eyes closed, I didn’t have any clue what was going to happen to my face after spreading the cool gel on one part of it. From the photos, I figured that handheld treatment unit was used to gently apply to my skin. This administered pulses of the light on my face. From the first few shots of laser light flashing on my face, I didn’t feel any pain. But after a few minutes, when the cool gel on my face were warming up, I felt a slight sting like a snap of a rubber band. This feeling is normal. I just had to tell Kath that I felt the sting so she could add more gel to cool my face.
Once IPL Photorejuvenation laser shots were completed, my skin care advisor wrapped up by gently scraping off the cooling gel on every part of my face.
I stood up and was brought to the restroom area to wash my face thoroughly. Almost used the water from the faucet to complete the washing step. Kath arrived with a stainless bowl of ice cold water before I actually did wash my face. Since the treatment used hot laser light, I had to close my pores by washing my face with ice cold water.  The whole procedure lasted less than 15 minutes on my watch.
Q: How many treatments are needed?
A: That depends on the number of conditions to be treated. And, the severity of the individual problem. A series of 8-10 treatment sessions with about 3 weeks to 1 month apart are recommended.
Q:Are there any possible side effects?
According to YSA based on their experience, side effects are very rare with IPL treatments. Some women may experience slight reddening or local swelling but these irritations typically go away after several hours.
On rare occasions, some have experienced blistering. The skin turn darker or lighter but it also goes back to the normal skin tone within few weeks.
To avoid these complications, it is recommended to avoid sun exposure before and after the treatment.
To squeeze in IPL Photorejuvenation treatment for a person with a busy schedule may be more convenient than other facial procedures. It only lasted less than 15 minutes at the clinic. A completely non-invasive, non-abrasive treatment with no recovery time.
