To appreciate the beauty of Guam, choosing where to spend the nights matters.
Tumon is known as an area where most hotels are situated. If you take a look at the ranks in Trip Advisor, majority of the top hotels choose to locate themselves in Tumon.
As for me, I stayed at Pacific Star Resort and Spa with the GVB (Guam Visitors Bureau) team. It was their choice, not mine. But, I’m glad they did. 😉
I’m telling you as early as now. If you’re planning a trip to Guam soon, maybe this year, the next year or some time you want to cross the country off your travel list, “backpacking” or choosing a cheap lodging far from Tumon is not a good idea. Please not. The idea of backpacking might work for busier cities in Europe. I’m sorry but not in Guam.
I had the chance to spend my lovely week in one hotel, Pacific Star Resort and Spa, so I might as well share with you what I love about this hotel and why I think you should book your stay here.
Why Book at Pacific Star Resort and Spa?
1. Beachfront view in any room
Are you for the west side or east side? Whatever it is, Pacific Star Resort and Spa delights their clients with amazing window side views. Imagine waking up to this blue cozy view of Tumon beach in the morning. Aahhhh, the beach life. Now I’m missing it again!
That photo was taken using my phone, posted on instagram, as soon as I let the light pass through our glass window.
2. Old hotel but well-maintained rooms
Despite being one of the oldest hotels in the city, Pacific Star Resort and Spa manages to keep the rooms neat without any hint of its age through its odor. Although, you can’t hide its age from the type of furnitures and decors used. The bathroom is not perfect, stained and tiles look old, but everything works and kept tidy through the hotel’s daily housekeeping services. There are efforts to improve the hotel, like renovating some parts, slowly, one at a time. What’s important is the strong and consistent management that strives good maintenance of the hotel.
3. Good internet connection
Every time wifi connection problems occur in Manila, disturbing thought bubbles pop out with ideas of migrating to another country with fast internet connections. How shallow I know! Haha! Pacific Star Resort and Spa made me experience that speedy wifi connection any online geek in Manila longs for. As a self-confessed introverted extrovert, my introvert personality would often pull me back to the hotel and simply enjoy the good life of having fast wifi connection. Haha! Oh wow. That little thing I appreciate as a Filipino, fast internet! :))
4. Proximity to shopping malls.
I turn into a shopaholic (even if I’m not) whenever I travel. In Guam, my shopper instinct sharpened because of outlet stores close to our hotel. No, I don’t blame the hotel ok? Haha!
What’s great with Pacific Star is the short distance from the hotel to the shopping area. To Kmart, which is 24 hours btw, it only took us a 5-minute walk. To GPO (Guam Premier Outlets) where Ross is, it could take at least 20 minutes or more. To T Galleria, you can rely on the pick-up/drop-off shuttle to bring you straight to the duty free mall. In front of Pacific Star, there’s ABC store where you could purchase souvenir, food, beauty products, etc.
If you’re like me who counts location as one of the most important factors to consider in booking a hotel, Pacific Star is a wise choice.

5. Friendly and efficient service
Employees at the hotel are composed of Guamanians and Filipinos. All of them share one thing in common, pleasing personalities that are ready to serve with a smile all day. I received consistent remarkable service from the staff, truly an added value to the hotel. To top off the great service, the general manager Mr. Roy Abraham deserves the credit for being excellent in the hotel industry. He managed to entertain us during our stay, which I truly appreciate. Such a sweet and generous man!
