Leaving the house, casually dressing up to dine and unwind in Rockwell is an exercise I don’t mind repeating thrice a week. As one of my favorite malls in Manila, I could find myself relaxed as I stroll and shop around, buy if I see something worth the money, sit in a pretty cozy restaurant all day with my laptop to be productive. That’s the ideal day though, which doesn’t happen all the time. Haha!
Same with my sister, if I want to pull her to tag along with me, Rockwell is the easiest way to let her say yes. Reine doesn’t have to pause for a minute and think. By just saying I’m off to Rockwell, she’s magnetized to join me right away. Exactly the scenario when I was asked to lunch at CDP Global Table in Rockwell.
A love affair with Paris, New York and Manila, one common denominator that jived the three ladies – Malou Fores, Katrina Alcantara and Kristine del Gallego-Locsin – behind CDP or Chef Du Partie Restaurant in Rockwell. The rich culture combined with good food 3 cities that inspired the ladies to translate into mouthwatering small yet shareable plates.
If you take a look at the logo closely, those are the 3 ladies.
The Food:
Clam Chowder (Php 325) Rate: 4/5 |
First leg of our CDP fair was a bunch of light appetizers in small plates. The soup Clam Chowder slid in first. Clam broth and cream had most of the share to create a thick whipped texture while local Manila clams, bacon, potato and sourdough bread added burst of colors and stronger flavors on the soup’s crest.
Pig’s Ears Fries (Php 295) Rate: 5/5 |
Sometimes, you don’t actually need to hear the name of the dish on your table. Reine and I were late for lunch, so some of these appetizers were served minutes before we arrived. With no questions asked, I partook of this Pig’s Ears Fries, delighted by the crunch and tastiness, dipped into its anchovy vinaigrette then ended up forking more. I only found out in the middle of my enjoyment that it was Pig’s Ears! Haha! My own ears didn’t bother what I heard. This is freakin’ good!
Soft Pork Tacos (Php 235) Rate: 4/5 |
Señorito y señorita, Soft Pork Tacos of CDP deserves your attention. Basic homemade soft tortilla packed with stewed pork, pickled onions and sour cream. Don’t forget to squeeze the lime!
Beer Battered Fish Tacos Rate: 4/5 |
If you prefer fish over pork, say dibs on this Beer Battered Fish Tacos. Similar blend of sour cream to even out the fried texture of beer battered fish. Again, CDP suggests you to squeeze some lime juice over your tacos.
Squid Fideua (Php 425) Rate: 5/5 |
I love black paella, which is why it’s easy for me to be tickled by CDP’s Squid Fideua. Capellini pasta occupied with squid ink, baby squid on top and aioli to be mixed that turns the hot plate magically inviting.
Truffle Maccheroni (Php 495) Rate: 5/5 |
Working out suddenly popped like a bubble out of my head when I devoured into this Truffle Maccheroni like there’s no tomorrow. Maccheroni (macaroni like) pasta in a playground of truffle paste, cream, grana padano and parma ham to meet your meat needs. Between red and white sauce, I’m a tomato woman. I didn’t think I’d fall head over heels on this pasta. Just. So. Heavenly!
Scallops and Prawns Curry Risotto (Php 580) Rate: 5/5 |
Tied with the Truffle Maccheroni is my infatuation with Scallops and Prawns Curry Risotto. Reine’s first few minutes at CDP showed timidness, tiny portions of each dish was supposed to be enough. Tables turned around after sinking her teeth into the Scallops and Prawns Curry Risotto. The result of pan-seared scallops and prawns, grilled leaks and red curry sauce all together is fantabulous!
Maddie’s Chicken (Php 425) Rate: 4/5 |
CDP also prides itself for their Maddie’s Chicken. An artistic composition of crunchy and juicy beer battered chicken breast stuffed with farmers ham, gruyere cheese, truffle camote chips and barbecue sauce as an optional dip.
CDP Corned Porkchop (Php 465) Rate: 5/5 |
Over the years of finding the most attractive and commendable porkchop, my search is over. CDP Corned Porkshop is a glorious creation, a sweet medley of smokiness, sweetness and spiciness, where the chili garlic fried rice comes in. Pull up your sleeves and give this a try!
The Triade (Php 455) Rate: 5/5 |
The day isn’t over until you find your way to the desserts. My personal favorite is The Triade, a platter of Saffron Panna Cotta, Red Wine Chocolate Pudding and Salted Caramel Pot de Creme. There should be a pattern in trying all three. Start with the lightest in color to the darkest. Only according to my palate to appreciate all 3 flavors. Nonetheless, you have the liberty to dive into all three in any way you want. Haha!
Maple Mascarpone Cheesecake (Php 345) Rate: 4/5 |
Enough of the traditional cheesecake and time to be impressed by this Maple Mascarpone Cheesecake with walnut shortbread cookie that adds extra crunch to the silky texture.
Maple Bread Pudding (Php 275) Rate: 4/5 |
Pair up this Maple Bread Pudding with a scoop of Salted Caramel Gelati, you get a pleasant surprise of balanced sweetness and saltiness from the kick of the gelati. CDP’s gelati are all made with Carabao’s milk, a family tradition of ice cream making for more than 75 years.
Affogato (Php 275) Rate: 4/5 |
Strong Affogato dessert, made with fiore de latte with black sesame and gelato, for coffee enthusiasts. Consider this boost instead of asking for a cup of joe to cap off your meal.
The Ambiance:
If you’re wondering where you and your ladies could schedule your regular meet-ups, the chic countryside with artistic wall designs theme of CDP could save you a table. Whether you stay by the patio or hang out inside, the modern, warm and artistic touches of the ambiance charm the eyes.
