My steak dreams came true at the only steakhouse in City of Dreams, Ruby Jack’s Steakhouse & Bar.
Earlier this year, O and I cleared our Thursday schedule to spend the afternoon at Ruby Jack’s. Being steak lovers that we are, the word steakhouse itself was a big teaser, giving us a heads up on what will be served. Shows we’ll do anything for steak! Haha! We are not claiming to be the best critiques, but we both agree steak is the closest to our hearts and tastebuds.
Meeting classic with contemporary steakhouse dining, Ruby Jack’s Manila captivates through its supreme fine-dining restaurant. Coming from Tokyo Japan, Manila has been chosen as the first store outside Japan, conceived by the team behind Two Rooms Grill & Bar in Japan – Matthew Crabbe, Nathan Smith and Edward Baffoe.
As the first store in Manila, Ruby Jack’s Manila promises to be as close to its original branch in Tokyo. The interiors, suppliers of meat, way of cooking and process, are identical to the one in Japan. If not the same, as close as it should get. The main franchisor in Tokyo strictly required Manila branch to use the same aquarium as the one they have in Tokyo.
From what I heard, the advanced aquarium’s climate could be controlled, keeping the live seafood fresh inside the tank. I forgot to tell you that the aquarium costs more than a million pesos. Wild!!
For the elite, luxurious and steak enthusiasts, the price range of Ruby Jack’s could be quite intimidating for a regular spender.
The Food:
|
Ruby’s Caesar Salad (Php 550)
Rate: 4/5 |
For a second, I didn’t recognize it was Ruby’s Caesar Salad for its parmesan cheese generously suffocating the greens. Haha! This is by far the unhealthiest caesar salad I’ve encountered. Seriously! You’ll taste more cheese and caesar dressing than its lettuce. Haha!
|
Boutique Tomatoes (Php 700)
Rate: 5/5 |
From the unhealthiest to the sweetest tomatoes fresh from Japan. Whether it’s sweet or sour, I love tomatoes! Boutique Tomatoes refreshes with its super sweet juice, topped with shaved red onion and gorgonzola. I hope all tomatoes taste this sweet way!
|
Sizzling Scallops (Php 800)
Rate: 4/5 |
Three huge pieces of Sizzling Scallops with black garlic butter and lemon is another option for your appetizer. Even though you can actually skip this one and proceed to your steak, I’d say it’s still worth the shot if you’re willing to add an extra P800 for a small plate.
|
Lobster Mac & Cheese (Php 700)
Rate: 5/5 |
Competing with the Foie Gras Mac N’ Cheese I love from
Le Petit Souffle is this
Lobster Mac & Cheese from Ruby Jack’s. This you cannot skip! Served hot on a skillet, every bite of this macaroni, lobster chunks and gooey melted cheese will drive you crazy in love leading you to finish what’s left.
|
Tomahawk Steak
Rate: 5/5 |
The best Tomahawk Steak! Stand alone for its jam-packed flavors, I plunged into countless of strips that filled my hungry steak appetite. I cannot stop. I promise! Thankfully we were there for lunch, the best time to indulge, where we had time to burn down the calories through walking. Haha!
As a classic vintage restaurant with a contemporary twist, Ruby Jack’s Manila takes pride of its 100% all-imported and carefully selected aged and fresh chilled non-aged beef cuts, premium lamb, and poultry showcased in a glass-enclosed working showpiece meat cellar. In other words, beef is the center of attraction!
|
T-Bone (Php 4500/800grams)
Rate: |
Fancy another kind of steak? Bet on John Dee’s Super Gold 160-day grain fed black angus T-Bone Steak, which has a thicker appearance yet still perfectly tender and juicy.
I suggest you to order their Mashed Potatoes with Garlic Chips (Php 250), which is good for 2 persons already.
|
Teppan & Char Grilled Seafood Plate (Php 4200/for 1; Php 7500/for 2)
Rate: 4/5 |
A celebration of seafood on a plate – today’s market fish, half lobsters and scallops. For the price, I know it sounds crazy! Maybe not an economical choice if you’re here for the steak. Although if you want to be mesmerized by the taste of their live lobsters, Teppan & Char Grilled Seafood Plate is the perfect choice.
|
Baked Cheesecake (Php 400)
Rate: 5/5 |
Baked as you order, a slice of Cheesecake is joined by its squad – dayad curd, earl grey ice cream and lavander. Creamier and softer than New York style cheescake but denser than a Japanese pillowy cheesecake.
|
Mango Cajeta Pavlova (Php 400)
Rate: 4/5 |
Mango Cajeta Pavlova tries to be balancing with its ripe mangoes on top of light and sweet meringue cup.
|
Strawberry Pomegranate Agar (Php 400)
Rate: 5/5 |
Most refreshing dessert on the list, the jelly Strawberry Pomegranate Agar is a layer of textures using coconut lychee sorbet and passion fruit cream.
Not only does the steak take the crowd, the bar also keeps the other side of Ruby Jack’s more alive at night. Ruby Jack’s bar houses well-chosen cocktails, ranging from classic to contemporary and satiable variation, also delights with rare whiskeys for real picky drinkers.
The Ambiance:
Patterned or copied from Ruby Jack’s Steakhouse & Bar in Japan, it is a
classic theme with expensive furniture pieces from Italy.
The bar stools are designed by renowned French engineer and designer,
Jean Prouve.
Beside the bar area, the Cigar Room is found – a customized, intimate, lounge style room for cigar and fine spirit aficionados.
Moving on from the expensive steak and seafood, the stunning glass-cased wine cellar holding 900 bottles of over 150 iconic and cult labels has to be seen. When I entered, I walked too gentle and too slow, being careful not to break anything. Especially, the Petrus Pomerol wine in that box is jaw-dropping with P2,000,000 price tag! Rumored to be Erap’s favorite wine, Petrus Pomerol is a rare find, simply fit for the luxurious.
Everything in Ruby Jack’s is luxurious! For the price range, it met my expectations of high quality in all aspects! In fact, Ruby Jack’s is outstanding!
